The Mistress of Novice's Study The room is warmly decorated with a thick rug patterned in muted greens, yellows and blues on the floor and a wide desk set facing away from the fireplace in the western wall. There are two chairs set before the desk and a cushioned armchair behind it. The walls are decorated with tapestries and paintings. On the desktop there is a large, bound book holding many pages. In the corner by the fireplace, a rather wicked looking willow switch leans against the wall.

A supple willow switch leans against the wall.
A writing desk dominates the center of the room, facing the entrance.
A high backed chair sits here, facing the table.
A patterned rug lies upon the floor.
The Mistress of Novices stands with a stern yet motherly look on her face.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices looks up, 'Yes child?'

You spread your skirts and sink into a graceful curtsey.

You say in cautious tones, 'I have completed the task Mistress. I hope it is to your satisfaction?'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices looks back down to a letter in front of her, speaking absently, 'Yes yes child. I anticipated you would and already awarded you for the work.'

You smile lightly as you say, 'Mistress are there any other tasks that I can attend to?'

You say in cautious tones, 'If you so wish of course.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices looks up to you and leans back in her chair, studying you.

(A novice arrives and interrupts with a question. She is answered and leaves)

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices turns back to you, 'Now child..you asked about a task. Tell me, what task would you like to complete?'

You clasp your hands gracefully in front of you as you say lightly, 'I asked to help if there were anything to do. I don't have any particular task in mind.

You smile as you continue, 'Aes Sedai.

You spread your skirts and sink into a graceful curtsey. .

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices nods, 'Well, a moment then while I finish reading this letter, yes?'

You say in cautious tones, 'As you wish Mistress Redhill.'

You beam a warm smile at Merean.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices frowns as she finishes reading, snorting slightly, 'Wear the Shawl less than a year and she wants to change everything..'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices sighs deeply and places the letter in a drawer.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices looks up to you with a smile, 'Now child, tell me..how much do you know of the Ajahs? Do you have a basic understanding of them?'

You smile lightly as you say, 'I would have to say basic yes Mistress. Both Accepted Adaina and Accepted Arleve have spoken to me about them.'

You continue, 'Briefly though.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices nods, 'And while it's certainly premature, I have no doubt you have considered an Ajah for yourself. All novices have. To which Ajah do you hope to aspire one day?'

You beam a smile at Merean as you say quietly, 'Well I have had thoughts on joining the Red Ajah Mistress.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'The Red Ajah. Interesting.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'I would like you to find a Red Sister, a Red Sister who is not busy mind..one on the upper levels, not those on the lower floors who are undoubtedly on errands. Find a Red Sister and find out more about the Ajah.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'When you are through speaking to her, you may come back to me and tell me what you have learned.'

You bow your head deeply as you say, 'Yes Mistress.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices nods.

You spread your skirts and sink into a graceful curtsey.

You open the broaddoor.

A Short Grey-Tiled Hallway
This short section of hallway connects to a much wider corridor to the west and
to the east it joins another hallway that runs parallel to the wider westward
corridor. Grey tiles cover the floor of this hall but a colorful tapestry
hangs on the wall opposite a large, carved door that faces the hallway from the
south. The hallway is rather draughty here. From the east comes the dimly
heard clattering of pots, pans and china.

A tapestry is hanging on the wall.
Carrying an armload of laundry, a servant stops to adjust her load.
A serious, dark-eyed tower guardsman stands alertly.
A stocky guardsman stands at attention here, protecting the White Tower.
A cheerful young girl stands before the doorway here.

(She wanders the Tower in search of a Red whom she finds in the Red Ajah Quarters)

A Broad Gallery The gallery bends both north and westward from this corner. A wide, tiled hallway continues on to the south and other passageways can be seen turning off
to other parts of the Tower. A stout wooden railing surrounds the gallery.
In the corner opposite this one, across the open expanse of the courtyard that
lies below, a stone ramp curves gracefully to the other levels in this part of
the Tower, those levels above and below this one.

Tarna Feir looks at you.
Tarna Feir says, 'Yes child?'

You bow your head deeply and say, 'I don't mean to disturb you Aes Sedai but I was wondering if you could spare time to tell me more about the wonders of the Red Ajah.'

Tarna Feir says, 'The wonders of the Red Ajah, is it?'

Tarna Feir says, 'Merean sent you, didn't she?'

You bow your head and say quietly, 'I have heard that there are many wondrous things in the Red Ajah. Yes you are correct Mistress Redhill did send me.

Tarna Feir rolls her eyes, 'Fine than. Follow me.'

Northward, the walk leads to a ramp, made of the same gleaming white stone as the walls of the Tower, that winds along to the higher and lower floors. The gallery also continues some way to the east. Doors and corridors lead off from the gallery as it makes it way around. A standlamp is mounted where the walls meet here.

Barasine Sedai says, 'A specialty. You make it sound like a special dish of roasted fish with honeypeppers in Lugard. '

Barasine Sedai says, 'It is not a specialty child, it is total and utter devotion. Did you know that in large part, the White Tower was formed because of the ideals of the Red Ajah?'

You look at Barasine as you say, 'I do not mean to come across with a snark attitude Aes Sedai, I just have an interest in the process of gentling males who can channel. I did not know that.

A gust of wind moans against the building and rattles the window panes.

Barasine Sedai says, 'Well, it's more than just gentling. Rarely are there those who come willingly and more often than not, they've caused no end of trouble by the time we hear of them. The Red Ajah eyes and ears network is one of the most extensive in my opinion, but even with that, people are afraid to write of them or speak of them.'

You nod slightly as you listening intently, 'Why do they have such fear? The Red Ajah is here to help.'

Barasine Sedai chuckles, 'Were that all saw it as you say child. They have fear because of rumors, nasty rumors and myths about the Tower, especially the Reds.

Barasine Sedai's face takes on a shrewd countenance, 'Child, do not attempt to flatter me. I will send you back to Merean for a switching.'

You wrinkle your brow as you say, 'Excuse me Aes Sedai, I was simply commenting on the fact that the Red Ajah contributed a great deal to preserving what was left after the Breaking. You yourself said that it was in large part of the ideals of the Red Ajah. I shall not interrupt you again.'

You bow your head deeply.

look book
This tattered journal has only a few pages left which are still legible and
they clearly have been treated with some sort of oil to protect them.
The cover does not show an author's name but the book is written in a
quick decisive hand and the cover has clearly been refurbished as it is in
much better shape than the rest of the book. The inside also contains a
note which reads below.

Among the First Cache of books brought to the Tower after it's
building. Who the author of the notes is, is unclear but after some
research, the Browns discovered among the records this Arldrema as
having been one of the many Aes Sedai to lead groups of sisters to
hunt men who could channel towards the end of the Breaking. The
written account doesn't tell us much but still is very interesting
and offers an intriguing glimpse into the lives of the Aes Sedai
during those tumultuous times.

(entry 1)
Arldema called the others to her tent today where they were
cloistered for some time before emerging, each painted with a look
of grim determination. Most of the camp knew just what it meant.
Another one had been heard of and we were moving to intercept him.
It had been weeks with no word and I think even the Aes Sedai
believed for a short time that this madness might be ending, that we
might have seen the last of it, but today it's become clear that
this is not going to end anytime soon.

(entry 2)
Three days of riding and we've been seeing signs of his passing all
over. Many of the trees throughout the area had been leveled, though
none burned like the last and there are no other disturbances that
we can see. It as if we are ants looking up at the grass which has
been smashed beneath the hooves of horses. Arldema led the band as
usual, her features grim and her mood catching. None of the women
around her spoke but that was not unusual. What was unusual was
that when one of the outriders appeared today and began speaking to
the group, one of the women began to weep, Jeema I believe. None of
the women could be described as soft and when one of them cried, I
know mine was not the only mind to think that it was time to abandon
this madness and run.

(entry 3)
The signs are getting worse and there have been whispers that we have
come upon more than one this time. There are rumors in the camp that
there are three of these tainted men this time. Rather than panic,
the small army continues riding in silent shock as the landscape
becomes more and more unnatural around us. Bizarre holes in the
ground appear to either side of the road. They are a small woman's
length across and perhaps as long as two horses standing length wise
and as deep as the height of one horse. Their purpose is completely
lost to us, as they repeat every five or so paces but the way they
were created is not at all lost on anyone. Clearly they were created
with Saidin and to many in this group, they are an omen of what is
to come for each of us. Many of us fear that we are seeing our
future, we are seeing graves.

(entry 4)
Seven days we've been riding through this madness and the ground is
burnt and dark in many places. Those terrible holes have ended,
thank the Light, but the trees are again flattened. Worse, there is
no longer the Lake Tamiq which was supposed to exist and where we
had thought to set up camp. The village which was supposed to stand
on the other side of the lake is now just across a large soggy
valley of mud and dead water creatures. The air is wet and difficult
to breathe and feels like it should break into a horrid storm at any
moment.

Barasine Sedai crosses her legs as she watches you read.

You gasp as you turn the second page of the journal.

A gust of wind moans against the building and rattles the window panes.

There is a soft knock at the door.

Barasine Sedai frowns and rises, 'Keep reading child.' and moves to the door.

Barasine Sedai opens the door.

Barasine Sedai mumbles something to someone outside the door for a moment before turning back, 'I will return in a moment child.'

Barasine Sedai leaves south.

The door is closed from the other side.

(entry 5)
We decided to set up camp near the once lake anyway, though blessedly
some distance from it's edge as it's carnage would have been a grim
reminder of what could come. The Aes Sedai must believe the men they
are seeking are nearby but no one was happy today when to a one,
all nine of them stopped what they were doing and looked towards the
village. Immediately after, they began to huddle around in a group,
whispering fiercely. As expected, Aldrema quieted them with dark
frowns and a whispered shout for them to keep silent. Without
another word they mounted and moved off towards the village at a
gallop, as if on the attack. This has not been their way in the
past. They were more often approaching these men with stealth.
Whatever it was that made them look towards the village had made the
change in plan, I am most certain of it. As usual, we now wait.

(entry 6 and final entry)
As dawn approached this morning, many hours after the Aes Sedai left
our camp for the village, they returned, all but Jeema. The Aes
Sedai had the looks of those who have seen family die to duty in the
past, a look of angry mourning. They ordered the camp moved. It
seems they had discovered other Aes Sedai nearby and we would be
joining with their camp. The cursed men numbered two, not three
as it turned out and they had both been killed but not before taking
Jeema and two from the other group of Aes Sedai with them. Their
number would be fourteen Aes Sedai now, with followers of somewhere
just around fifty.

A gust of wind moans against the building and rattles the window panes.

A young servant walks in with a springy step from the south.

Esrica Sedai studies you.

Esrica Sedai frowns and gives the servant a withering look.

A young servant goes pale and moves away south.
A young servant hurries off south.

Esrica Sedai closes the door.

You say, 'I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Red Ajah and now more than ever long to be a member.'

You bow your head deeply.

Esrica Sedai says, 'You have some time before you make that choice child, if you have worked for the opportunity to make it. '

Barasine Sedai gives Esrica another frown but nods, 'Yes, Esrica is correct child. You may return to Merean Sedai who will no doubt want a report on what you have learned.'

You continue, 'No male should wield any power let alone the One Power.'
You look up at Barasine as you clear your throat. 'I apologize Aes Sedai.

Barasine Sedai nods.

You say, 'I shall take my leave now.'

You spread your skirts and sink into a deep curtsey before her.
You spread your skirts and sink into a deep curtsey before her.

*TRAVELLED FROM BARASINE SEDAI TO MEREAN REDHILL.*

Novice Freina steps aside and nods with a smile at you.
Novice Freina opens the broaddoor.

The broaddoor is closed from the other side.

You spread your skirts and sink into a deep curtsey before her.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices glances up to you, 'Ahh, there you are child. You were gone for some time. Did you find an Aes Sedai to speak with?'

You say, 'Yes I did Mistress Redhill, and Barasine Sedai was kind enough to spend some time with me.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices chuckles, 'Kind was she? That's a first. What did you learn?'

You say, 'I learned that the goal of the Red Ajah mirrors my own in spirit. They are devoted to the White Tower and in preserving the integrity of the One Power.'

You continue, 'They do this by cleansing the world of the males who can wield the One Power.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices watches you, listening.

You say, 'I have learned that the Red Ajah have devoted time, effort and lives to that goal and aided in what existence we have today.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices nods, thinking a moment before speaking.

You say, 'They cast aside the misconceptions and 'bad reputation' they have attained through the years and continue to do their duty as Aes Sedai of the White Tower.'

You take a deep breath as you bow your head deeply.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'Indeed. The reputation they have is often one we all share in, unfortunately. You will find that in any Ajah you choose. It is the world we live in.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'The Red Ajah's goals differ dramatically from the Blues, my own Ajah. But while their goals are different, their cause is noble and more sisters have been killed from their Ajah in accomplishing it's goals than half of some of the other Ajahs combine'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'You seem to have gotten a good handle on what it is to be a Red. Well done child.'

You beam a smile, 'I thank you Mistress Redhill for the kind words and this great opportunity.'

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices smiles at you.

You have been awarded clan points.

Merean Redhill, the Mistress of Novices says, 'You may go child. It is late and we both must seek our beds.'

You nod.

You spread your skirts and sink into a deep curtsey before her.

A Short Grey-Tiled Hallway This short section of hallway connects to a much wider corridor to the west and to the east it joins another hallway that runs parallel to the wider westward corridor. Grey tiles cover the floor of this hall but a colorful tapestry hangs on the wall opposite a large, carved door that faces the hallway from the south. The hallway is rather draughty here. From the east comes the dimly heard clattering of pots, pans and china.
[ Exits: e s w ]
A tapestry is hanging on the wall.
A serious, dark-eyed tower guardsman stands alertly.
A stocky guardsman stands at attention here, protecting the White Tower.
A cheerful young girl stands before the doorway here.
Novice Freina flashes a little smile at you.

THEN I RETURN TO THE ENTRANCE HALL
